Wir durften am Freitag, auf dem Kindergeburtstag meiner jetzt vierjährigen Tochter, in strahlende Kinderaugen schauen. Der Clown Zauberer LIAR hat dies vollbracht. Aber nicht nur die Kinder haben gelacht, auch uns Erwachsenen sind einige Tränen vor Lachen übers Gesicht gerollt.

Getting started is easy: I arrive in good time before the show begins and need only about 10 minutes to set up – a clear space of 2×2 metres is all it takes. You don't need to prepare anything, put up a stage or organise any equipment. Then off we go: the show begins with a story that draws the children in straight away and develops step by step into an interactive experience. The children become magician's assistants, hold magical objects, say magic spells – and at a children's birthday party, the birthday child is of course the centre of attention and gets their own big magic moment in front of all the guests. For the finale, the drama builds once more: the most astonishing trick comes at the end, so the children leave the show wide-eyed and with a smile on their faces. After around 40 minutes the magic show is over – if you wish, it continues with balloon modelling or glitter tattoos.
The magic show is suitable for children aged 4 and over and is consistently adapted to the age group – because a nursery child marvels differently from a fourth-year pupil. For the youngest (4 to 6 years), I rely on simple, clearly recognisable magic moments with plenty of movement, repetition and clowning: short bursts of suspense, big gestures, lots of shouting along and laughing along. Primary school children (7 to 12 years), on the other hand, want to be challenged – they get more sophisticated tricks, more wordplay and moments where they can puzzle over how what they have just seen was possible. And the adults? Experience shows they don't sit there bored, but chuckle along on their own level: the humour works on two levels, so parents, grandparents and nursery teachers enjoy it just as much as the children. With mixed groups – at family celebrations, for example – I balance the programme so that everyone, from the kindergarten child to grandma, laughs together.
Both! As I only need a space of about 2×2 metres, the magic show works practically anywhere: in the living room, the party basement, the nursery group room, the gym, the parish hall – or in the open air on the terrace, in the garden and at a summer fête. Indoors, a cosy, focused atmosphere quickly develops in which even a living room becomes a magic stage. Outdoors, the show thrives on the relaxed party mood – all that matters is a reasonably level spot and ideally a little shade so the children aren't sitting in the blazing sun. And if the weather doesn't play along at the garden party? No problem: because the set-up is so compact, we simply move indoors at short notice – a plan B is always built into this show.
